Portrait of beautiful woman leaned on the bench.Meet my client, Janie.

Janie wrote well, and had the writing confidence and the bylines to prove it.

But despite a successful writing career, Janie didn’t love her work when we first started working together.  Janie couldn’t seem to make progress with her own writing projects.

She started wasting work time and losing her focus.  When her malaise almost caused her to miss an important deadline, Janie knew it was time to take action and get help.  She hired me as her coach, and together we transformed her writing career from “successful” to “successful and fulfilling.”

What does a “fulfilling” writing career look like for you?

To Janie, writing happiness meant using more of her time to write what matters most…along with the creative mental space and freedom she needed to invest in her fiction and move her goals forward.

We got to work, and together Janie and I made some important changes:

  • We got her excited about writing again and realigned her professional work so she could honor her original dreams and intentions once more.
  • We discovered her truest writing priorities.
  • Then we created time and freedom for Janie to write what matters most…streamlining her life and freelance writing business in the process.

It took just under 60 days for Janie to release old work and writing habits and create new ones. Janie began writing consistently each and every week and after another month she had finished the batch of short stories she’d wanted to complete for several years!

Janie started to submit her stories and she began working on a brand-new piece.  Janie was much happier.  But she soon discovered that her writing career transformation wasn’t over just yet.

After a few months of consistently writing, revising and submitting her work, Janie stalled.

She realized she wasn’t quite done growing her fulfilling writing career.   While Janie was writing more these days, she wasn’t yet writing better.

  • Janie had quickly learned to stoke her inner fire, create space to write and finish her most important writing projects.
  • Now it was time for Janie to grow her craft.  Janie had to learn to lead her own creative development, too.

When you take charge of your writing career and start to direct your writing life and career from the inside out, you’re going to get happier, guaranteed.

But writers, like everyone, are meant to continually grow and evolve.  Like Janie, to be as content a writer as you can be, you’ve got to take the lead in your creative developmenttoo.

Don’t overlook this step!

  • Analyze and study writing you admire.
  • Brainstorm writing exercises for yourself and keep a list in your notebook.
  • Make time each week to focus on craft…no matter how well you write already.

Decide how to run your writing career, focus your energy and use your writing time.

Then take the lead in your creative writing life.  Don’t forget to grow your writing career and your craft.

Once she made this shift, Janie loved her writing more than ever.

Take charge of your writing career from the inside out and you will, too.
