Brilliance

Think back to a moment when you were supremely happy.

  • Remember how alive and present you felt?
  • How “in the moment?”
  • How deeply connected you felt to your creativity, the space you were in, or the people you shared the moment with?

That’s one aspect of “brilliance.”

For me, I felt this “brilliance” the moment my daughter was born. The moment I stood in a field on the Canadian Plains, soaking up caramel sunshine while an impossibly long freight train thundered by.

And every time I sing a song with full heart, technique and presence – whether I’m alone in my studio or on a stage somewhere — I feel it.  Brilliance.

Brilliance Defined.

  • Brilliance is a state of being.
  • Brilliance is a way of managing your attitude, resources, relationships, commitments, business and projects so you get the very most out of your life.
  • Brilliance is a way of living that starts from the inside-out.

How to Find Yours.

If you’re a successful professional, you’ll find your brilliance when you step back from the marketplace long enough to hear your heart again. And once you get that inner direction, you’ll find your brilliance when you realign your life and energy to honor your talent.

You bring your brilliance forward when you’re:

  • feeling hopeful, creative, engaged and youthful again.
  • daring to acknowledge and honor your drive to create, be or do something new.
  • deciding to act in alignment with your heart, passion and long-lost writing dreams.
  • pursuing your writing and creative projects in community, not isolation.
  • living the life you have. (Only better.)

If you write, you’ll find your brilliance when you start taking new risks.  When you finish your own projects or publish your work. You’ll find your brilliance when you create a sustainable, productive and consistent writing routine you love.  When you build a writing career based on your values, your strengths and your passions.

If you’re raising a family, you’ll find your brilliance when you dress to please yourself. When you have a rhythm to your days that allows you to rest, play and take good care of yourself. When you stay in touch with friends and regularly practice your passions.

If you work for yourself, you’ll find your brilliance when you start taking charge of your earnings, your time, and your energy so you create a business that sustains you in every way possible – not drains you.  You’ll find your brilliance when you learn how to write for pay…and for yourself.

A Word About the Afterglow.

You might ask, “Is worth it?”

Oh, yes.

Because when you stop postponing your dreams and start going for an important new goal, you start experiencing life in a brand-new way.

  • Your sluggishness, malaise or exhaustion disappears.
  • You feel engaged with life, new peers and friends.
  • You feel younger. (And definitely happier.)

When you’re living in your brilliance, you’re not just someone who just talks about what you might like to be, do or make.

Instead, you practice:

  • Realigning with your integrity, becoming someone who’s changing things up a bit. Taking some action. Doing your dream.
  • Modeling good things for your children and inspiring your co-workers, your spouse, your friends.
  • Publishing your writing. Making more money with your business. Launching a new project. Creating a new adventure, purpose or role for yourself.

When you’re living in your brilliance, your relationships suddenly improve. You start taking better care of yourself. And you start meeting and collaborating with interesting new people who share your passions and pull you forward.

The best part?

You start truly loving the life you already have.

Can I Be Frank?

As poet, Mary Oliver, says, you really do have just one “wild, and precious” life.

Lots of people are content to live a good-enough life.  But if you’ve found me and you’ve read this far…I’m guessing you’re not one of those people.

You’re a writer.

And I’ll bet you’ve got some talent.

So think for a moment:  how will you use your gifts?  Honor your dreams?   Make the most of your time and energy?

Will you choose to stay stuck:

  • Dulled by responsibility?
  • Overrun by commitments, schedules and expectations?
  • Exhausted by the solo writing business you thought would set you free?
  • Vaguely striving because you have no meaningful vision to help you organize your writing time and efforts?
  • Disillusioned that “life” or “the economy” is keeping you from being as happy, energized and engaged as you wish to be?
  • Stuck waiting until you see a way out before you take action to create a life you love?

Or will you turn towards your brilliance?

If you know you’re ready to change your life for the better, welcome.
